Firefighter saves lives at the risk of their own. What they do is more than just a job because of what is at stake. Fire can kill and destroy in just a blink of an eye. This is why firefighters need to undergo extensive training to be able to perform well during fire emergencies. If you are planning to become a firefighter, you need to know more about what the job entails because not everyone can do it in as much as not everyone would want to do it. There is more to being a firefighter than learning how to use water fire extinguishers and the like. Firefighter training is not easy simply because the duties and responsibilities of a firefighter are demanding, challenging, and difficult. You would have to be prepared mentally, emotionally, and physically everyday for what has to come and what you are about to do. Once firefighters receive a call for help, they basically leave the fire station not really knowing what awaits them. From putting out fires with the use of water fire extinguishers or other firefighting devices to search and rescue operations, they would have to be highly trained to be able to handle every emergency situation that they would come across with in their line of work. Being physically fit is important during firefighter training, as you would be tested on your strength and endurance. In fire emergencies, you would have to carry fire equipment, force your way inside a burning structure, lift heavy objects that obstructs your way, look for trapped victims and carry them to safety, climb stairs or ladders to get to the upper floors of a high rise building, and extinguish the fire no matter how long it takes. You would have to endure long hours on the job. Of course, you are not alone in this because firefighting is a team effort. In firefighter training, you would have to learn a lot about fire protection and safety. You would have to be trained on how to put out a fire effectively to minimize its damage. You have to know what fire extinguisher to use for a particular fire. You need to learn how to operate the different fire extinguishers like the water fire extinguishers and when to use them. You must know some basic stuff like hose inlaying, ladder safety, use of breathing apparatus, etc. There really is so much to know and learn because in fire emergencies, there should be no room for errors or mistakes because lives are at stake. To be able to do their job well, firefighters have to be mentally and emotionally strong to be able to handle emergencies well. Although, no one can really mentally prepare for a tragedy or devastation, it is important that firefighters be calm and composed during these fire emergencies. They have to think clearly to do what needs to be done and fast. |
