Fire Safety: The Benefits of Fire Fighting Training

Fire safety is important. Fire is a danger that we should be prepared for. Our lives and the lives of our loved ones not to mention everything we hold dear are at stake here. Once a fire starts, it would only take seconds for it to spread. Your chance of making it to safety highly depends on your proximity to the fire and your preparedness on handling such an emergency. You need to know much about fire in order to adequately protect yourself from it. As adults, you need to be responsible about this. At the fire academy, there are courses that you can take that would prepare you for fire emergencies.

The fire risk assessment training at the fire academy is a good way to start, as it would help you identify the fire hazards in your place and removing or reducing its danger, making your home or workplace a safer place. When you know how a fire starts, then you would know how to prevent it from happening. There are three elements needed to start a fire namely heat, fuel, and oxygen. When you prevent sources of these elements from coming together, then there would be no risk of fire.

However, accidents happen and a fire may result. What do you do then? Being educated on active fire protection would enable each one to act accordingly and responsibly. Active fire protection deals mainly with manual or automatic fire detection and fire suppression like making use of smoke and fire detectors to alarm occupants of any fire emergency. It also involves installing and making use of fire fighting devices to combat incipient fires. These are things that we can learn in firefighting training in a fire academy.

Fire detectors would alert you of the danger and would give you time to act the way you were trained on such situation. If you are the first one to see the fire, you can manually sound the alarm to make others aware of the situation. However, there are fire detectors that would automatically activate once it sense an increase in temperature, heat, smoke, and fire in the area. It is important to install these devices in places that would cover the area where people may be affected so that everyone would be warned.

You should have ways of fighting fire at home, as it would save lives and limit the damage to property. There are different kinds of firefighting devices for different classes of fire. You should be aware of them so that you would not inadvertently cause more damage like using water fire extinguisher to combat electrical fires and grease fires. You could end up getting hurt and causing the fire to spread even more. Water fire extinguisher would be ideal for Class A fires like burning wood, paper, and fabric. For Class B fires on flammable liquids like gasoline, it would be best to use aqueous film forming foam fire extinguisher. CO2 fire extinguisher should be used for electrical fires. Wet chemical fire extinguisher is best for grease fires. Make sure you also know how to operate the extinguisher, when to use it and when to leave it to the professionals.
